A Reader Writes about Guai

12 April 2000

Dear Jacqui & Readers

You may be interested in the following information about Guaifenesin (pronounced Gwy-fen-e-sin) or Guai for short. I recently found a website with 1,200 people who have FM trying Guai in the U.S.A. and also know of a small number of people in New Zealand trying it. I have not tried Guaifenesin yet but am starting on it in a month or two when I have obtained a supply. I will let you know how I get on using it.

The information below is from the book ‘What Your Doctor may NOT tell you about Fibromyalgia’ by R. Paul St. Amand MD and also from my own knowledge. I strongly urge you to gather as much information as possible before considering this treatment. You also need a proactive, understanding doctor who has read the book and is willing to work closely with you. I ordered my book by credit card for $NZ 44.75 (price updated 21 April 2002) on the Internet site: International Guai-Support Group

Guaifenesin

3 Guaifenesin is a possible treatment for Fibromyalgia

3 The Guaifenesin approach to treating Fibromyalgia is not currently well known or widely accepted.

3 At the time of publication of the book, there were 200 USA Physicians who use and support Guaifenesin.

3 Guaifenesin is an expectorant found in cold preparations/cough medicines. It works at the cellular level, removing stored toxins and excess phosphates.

3 Guaifenesin is not currently available in New Zealand. You can order it via the internet with a doctor’s prescription.

3 Guaifenesin is taken twice daily in the form of a pill. The dosage varies depending on the individual.

3 Symptoms tend to improve in the reverse order from which they first appeared. There is a period of time when your symptoms become worse due to the toxins etc leaving your body. The symptoms go in cycles.

3 Two months on the correct dosage is said to reverse approximately one year of symptoms. However, it is necessary to take Guaifenesin ongoing.

3 Salicylates block the effects of Guaifenesin. All plants produce salicylates, therefore you are unable to put any natural plant extracts e.g. aloe vera, menthol etc directly on to the skin while taking Guaifenesin. It is okay to eat foods containing salicylates as they are harmlessly broken down in the body.

3 Reactive hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) ia an important factor in recovery. Many Fibromyalgics may have this condition.

3 It is very necessary to follow the protocol from the book.
