Claudia Marek
spoke on Fibromyalgia and mapped people in New Zealand in October 2003.
Dr Terry Macedo Rheumatologist, and Dr Jonathan Kuttner, Musculoskeletal Specialist
both spoke at the Auckland Saturday Seminar with Claudia Marek.
There was a well attended early session for doctors, specialists and associated professional people
before a large public audience listened during the day seminar.
This was followed by a Teaching Clinic run by Claudia for those people interested in learning to map clients.

Professor Ted Shipton of the Burwood Pain Clinic and Spinal Anaesthesiologist
at Christchurch Public Hospital spoke with Claudia in Christchurch.
Again, we held a very successful Teaching Clinic for mapping
and there are now trained people for mapping throughout New Zealand.
Dr David Caughey, Rheumatologist and Patron of Northern ArNZ introduced Claudia Marek
and welcomed her to New Zealand on behalf on Arthritis New Zealand.

We are hoping to meet all these wonderful people again and more
at the next N.Z. Fibromyalgia Conference scheduled for early 2005.
Claudia and her husband Lou wish to come back and experience the warmth of New Zealanders
and the beautiful scenery during autumn in the South Island and the East Coast of the North Island.
Thank you, each and everyone of you, for your generosity and support in making this happen in 2003.

Fibromyalgia affects millions of people in the United States, but as a condition with wide-ranging symptoms and no test available yet for diagnosis, it remains one of the most difficult to identify and treat. When Claudia Craig Marek was definitively diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1991, she found very little information, advice, or support for coping with her condition. Marek decided to take charge of her health and educate herself on every aspect of fibromyalgia -- by reading medical and scientific books and journals, talking with doctors, and networking with other people who have the condition. Now, as a "patient-expert," she shares her unrivaled experience and knowledge, walking those newly diagnosed step-by-step through their first year with fibromyalgia. Marek provided crucial information about:

-- Strategies for accomplishing necessary lifestyle changes
-- Guidelines and tips for modifying your diet
-- Choosing the right medical team
-- Stress management and exercise
-- Discussing your condition with family, friends, and co-workers
-- Current medical research and medications
-- Effective alternative therapies
-- Support group resources

By producing reliable, useful, empathetic, and up-to-date information you need to know when you most need to know it, The First Year -- Fibromyalgia is an indispensable resource for everyone learning to cope with this condition. It includes special sections on dealing with chronic psychological effects like fibrofog, identifying fibromyalgia in children, and finding or starting a support group that works for you.
