Guaifenesin Medication in New Zealand

Everyone who wishes to use Guaifenesin must read

"What Your Doctor May Not Tell you about Fibromyalgia" by Dr R. Paul St Amand
Another excellent book to read is "Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain" by Dr Devin Starlanyl

Both Authors are fibromyalgics and write from their own experience as well as their medical knowledge.

Basic Essentials for Dosage

  • Buy 300 mg or 600 mg capsules in New Zealand
  • New Zealand Guaifenesin is in gelatin (not vege) capsules and is lactose free
  • These caps have an immediate release followed by a sustained action which lasts approx.12 hours
  • Take medication 12 hours apart and always with food
  • Lowest starting dose is 2 x 300 mg per day - take 300mg in the morning again in the evening

Wait at this dose for 10 days or until exacerbation of symptoms

  • If not at your threshold, increase dose by 300 mg to 1200 mg daily
  • stay at this dose for the next 10 days

Again, wait at this dose for 10 days or until exacerbation of symptoms

  • Always increase dosage in an increment of 300 mg for the next 10 day period
  • You must exceed your threshold before you feel pain
  • When you reach your dose and your symptoms intensify, you will initiate reverse cycling.

This will be your dose for life.

  • Some people on high doses take 3 doses daily
  • Dosages do not need to be evenly divided e.g. for a total of 900mg, take 600mg morning & 300mg at night
  • Doses up to 1800 mg daily have proved to initiate reversal in 90% of people.
  • You may be a person who needs a higher dose than 1800 mg - we know of one person taking 4800 mg
  • Always keep a daily diary of how you are feeling to track yourself and ascertain your own cycles
