Hello Everyone!
I have not yet heard from any other person re this conference but will keep spreading knowledge about it as this is still early days. The date for the conference is now set for the 1st to 4th May, next year 2003 - details following at close.

I thought others who have fibromyalgia might like to know about this meeting. If there are some who would like to register, maybe you would like to contact me as well, and we could meet at the conference? I would enjoy meeting others in this field who also have fibromyalgia. I have asked about funding for travel. Are there any ideas?

Would anyone who is interested, like to think about contacting Vicki Terrell, the organiser, in Wellington sometime, especially if you are visiting the city? Just to communicate.
I went to a meeting of about a dozen there last time I was in Wellington & met some really great people. All sorts of disabilities, including cancer. One interested person is a well known male vicar but can't remember his name (fibro-fog? - ed). He seemed to be sensitive to the issues.

Spring is delightful after long grey days, though would you believe we had hail two days ago. In our garden there are snowdrops just finishing, daffs, trillium, crocus, matchheads and I have just put some pots of petunias outside on the verandah that I have been nuturing all winter.

My spirits lift with some sunshine.

Love to all, Elizabeth

Disability, Spirituality & Faith Conference
Te Puta I Te Tai-awhiowhio

Te Puta I Te Tai-awhiowhio is a conference to explore the issues of Disability, Spirituality and Faith. It will be held in Wellington 1st-4th May 2003.

The Aims are:

  1. To enable people with disabilities, and others, to explore the connections between disability, spirituality and faith
  2. To enhance the relationship and understanding within and between the disability and faith communities.

The conference is for people who have a connection to disability (through personal experience, work/ministry, close relationships) and an interest in spirituality and faith, whether that is through formal or informal structures.

For over twelve months an enthusiastic group of Wellingtonians, reflecting the diversity of disability community and with a range of faith backgrounds, have been working to bring this project together. The organizing team live daily with both disability and faith, experiencing the tensions and paradoxes which often result. This conference has the support of the Conference of Churches in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Conference will cover:

  • Justice
  • Theological issues
  • What gives meaning
  • Honouring of stories
  • Ethical concerns
  • Church structures
  • Mental health
  • Pastoral issues
  • Cross cultural issues

If these topics interest you or you have other topics you would like covered,
please let us know. You can also find us at Brainstorm.
